Scope and Contents Document compiled by then Business Executive William Couper listing residents of VMI owned housing from 1839 through 1951. This is the only known historical list which containing residence assignment information for the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Also includes William Couper's Construction Diaries for building of the Mess Hall, the Military Store and Barracks in 1936.
Scope and Contents The bulk of these files originated (although some were added to later) during William Couper's tenure as VMI Business Executive & Historiographer (1925-1954). Most of them have nothing to do with Business Office operations. Many relate to VMI historical matters (19th and 20th century) of interest to Couper. In some cases, they are the only or best source of information for specific VMI historical topics, particularly "minor" or obscure ones. They should be retained permanently.
