RG/RG 12. Registrar and Student Records

Identifier: RG/RG 12
This record group consists of modern student records (primarily individual student files; matriculation books; and paper grade records which pre-date the enrollment management online system). Student files are held by the Registrar until 20 years after a class graduates. In the spring of each year the Registrar retires another year of records and transfers them to the Archives. These records are subject to FERPA and other privacy restrictions and are CLOSED to research. See VMI Files Access policies (General Order).

Historical Grade Books

Scope and Contents The collection consists of 19th and early 20th century grades and academic marking records. The grading system during this period was numerical/point based.

Matriculation Books

Identifier: Records-Matriculation Books
Scope and Contents The collection consists of the matriculation record for incoming VMI classes. Nineteenth century books contain home address, parent or guardian name, age, and other information in addition to the signature.
