Biographical / Historical

George Smith Patton (1856-1927) was the father of George S. Patton, Jr. of World War II fame. He was the son of Colonel George Smith Patton, a Confederate officer killed in battle at Winchester, Virginia in 1864, and Susan Thornton Glassell. George S. Patton entered VMI in 1873 and graduated in 1877. He married Miss Ruth Wilson on December 10, 1884, in Los Angeles, California. Patton was an attorney, politician, and civic leader in the Los Angeles area. He died on June 10, 1927.
