The bulk of this collection consists of edited typescript and illustrations for Robert F. Hunter's book, Claudius Crozet (University of Virginia Press, 1989). The book was co-authored by Edwin L. Dooley. The collection also includes a typescript of the article entitled The Turnpike Movement in Virginia, 1816-1860.

Robert F. Hunter (born 1921) received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and was a Professor of History at VMI from 1954 to 1986.
