The collection consists of the United States Army Commission document of William Fitzhugh Lee, VMI Class of 1853. The document is dated August 1, 1856 and is signed by Secretary of War Jefferson Davis. During the Civil War Lee served as Lt. Col., 33rd Virginia Infantry Regiment, and was killed at Manassas in July 1861.
