Charles E. Foster papers

Scope and Contents The collection consists of 5 items, including Phi Lambda Epsilon and Phi Delta Theta fraternity certificates (1920-1921); athletic award certificate from the Wentworth Military Academy (1921); an ROTC advanced cavalry camp certificate from Fort Meade, Maryland (1924); and Foster's name card dating from his VMI cadetship. Foster (b. 1903 d. 1938) was a member of the Virginia Military Institute Class of 1925.

Material relating to COL Fred Gaillard includes his cadet photograph album; and ca. 12 original photographs dating from his service as commanding officer of the 377th infantry Regiment and related WWII documents.

Scope and Contents One typescript, "Reminiscences of a Keydet Cavalryman" by Col. James L. Morrison, Jr., VMI Class of 1945. Morrison gives a detailed account his years as a cadet participating in ROTC cavalry unit, 1941-1943 and 1945-1947. Subjects include the operation of the unit at VMI; cadet riding activities, including polo; and individuals involved in the programs.

Simeon O. Coxe, Jr. letters

Scope and Contents The Simeon O. Coxe collection contains a one volume typewritten transcription of letters written by Cadet Coxe (Virginia Military Institute Class of 1933) to his parents in Richmond, Virginia. The letters cover Coxe's entire cadetship (1929-1933) and contain a detailed record of VMI student life during early 1930's. Topics include daily routines; hazing; financial concerns; academics; athletics; ROTC summer camp at Fort Hoyle, Maryland; and the Ring Figure dance.
