Content Description Documents providing an account of the operations and training of the Corps of Cadets, arranged in binders by academic year. The continuity book provides an outline of all training schedules, standard operating procedures - SOP -, and operational orders. It is compiled by the S-3 staff.

Regulations of the Virginia Military Institute

Scope and Contents The Regulations detail rules for the operation of the Institute and for all aspects of cadet life. They were first published in 1839, and throughout the 19th through mid-20th centuries they were updated every few years. In the modern era, cadet regulations are published yearly and are familiarly know as the Blue Book.

The collection includes a copy of the 1839 Regulations signed by Joseph W. Bell, Class of 1842.

The VMI Cadet Newspaper

Scope and Contents The Cadet (originally The Keydet), VMI's student newspaper, began weekly publication in the fall of 1907. The collection begins with Volume 1, number 2 - the very first issue is not extant. The newspaper has been published continuously since 1907, except for a three-year gap during and immediately following World War II.

Scope and Contents The VMI Archives is the official repository for the Institute's collection of permanently maintained photographs. The earliest date from the 1840's and the most recent are digital photos from the current academic year. New items are added regularly.

VMI Class rings: designs and drawings

Scope and Contents A collection of VMI class ring designs from 1927 forward. New rings are designed by each VMI Class and are presented to Class members during November of their Second Class (Junior) year. The presentation is followed by a formal dance known as Ring Figure.
