Scope and Contents VMI scrapbook compiled by Cadet Eli B. Springs. Includes clippings, programs, invitations, and other memorabilia from the academic years 1911-1912 and 1912-1913.

Also one scrapbook page (fragment) dating from Springs's service in France during World War I. Includes an armed forces "newspaper" called The Route Step (vol. 1 no. 1), dated July 15, 1918, "somewhere in France"; ticket stubs for military travel, and clippings.

George S. Patton compositions

Scope and Contents The collection contains one essay and three poems by George S. Patton. The essay (2 pages), ca. 1903, discusses the significance of the VMI Corps' participation in the Battle of New Market (May 1864) and the New Market ceremony; it was probably written during the year Patton attended VMI or shortly thereafter. The typescript original poems are entitled "A Dream" (written in France, 1917, "God of Battles", and "Fear"; the latter two are signed by Patton.
