Scope and Contents A chronological file containing invitations, dance cards, and other memorabilia from formal dances held at VMI from 1840's through the 1950's. These dances were an important aspect of social life at VMI. Many of the invitations include elaborate engravings and other artwork depicting aspects of cadet life, institute building, early monograms (spiders), and other VMI-related art.
