Alexander Jackson Davis Architectural Drawings

Scope and Contents

The Alexander Jackson Davis collection consists of 27 architectural drawings executed for the Virginia Military Institute (Lexington, Virginia) between 1859 and 1870. Included are designs for the VMI Barracks, the Superintendent's residence, and faculty residences. The bulk of the drawings are ink and wash plans.

Scope and Contents Video created to coincide with the dedication of Third Barracks, November 2008. It includes use of historical images from the VMI Archives along with film footage from 2008. Keith Gibson, VMI Museum director, provides some commentary.

Scope and Contents Microfiche format plans and blueprints for many major VMI structures and miscellaneous other facilities and properties. The oldest plans in this collection are for Scott Shipp Hall, 1918; the most recent are for the New Science Building, 1987 (renamed Maury-Brooke Hall in 2010).

Scope and Contents Non-current blueprints for various VMI buildings, including buildings that no longer exist. With the exception of Preston Library plans, the Archives does not hold current blueprints. They are held by VMI Physical Plant.

Cincinnatus Monument scrapbooks

Scope and Contents 2 scrapbooks documenting the history and dedication of VMI's Cincinnatus Monument. The monument was unveiled and dedicated on November 11, 1983. The scrapbooks were compiled by Monument Committee member Percy M. "Pete" Lincoln, Jr., VMI Class of 1957.
