Scope and Contents The Jennings C. Wise Papers consist primarily of incoming and outgoing correspondence from the period 1910-1960. Included are letters dating from his years as Professor and Commandant of Cadets at VMI, from his practice of law, and from his retirement period in which he devoted himself primarily to writing. Wise was passionately interested in the history and future development of VMI and much of the correspondence reflects his ongoing involvement with the school. He often held controversial...
Scope and Contents The collection consists of a cased scrapbook presented to him on his 85th birthday in November 1966, containing biographical information, documents and photographs detailing his military career, including his service during World War I in France; one mounted photograph of Col. Downer; and Downer's presentation copy of the book "Report of the American Olympic Committee, Seventh Olympic Games, Antwerp, Belgium, 1920."
Scope and Contents The collection consists of two inspection trip scrapbooks, May 1942 and 1943 ("The Cruise of the Flying Cow"; "The Coconut Circuit"), documenting General Upshur's visits to various Pacific islands. Destinations included Midway, Pearl Harbor, Palmyra Island, Johnson Island.
