Scope and Contents Records documenting the various cadet extra-curricular organizations, clubs, and honor societies. Folder 1/Box 1 contains lists of organizations by school year (not complete). The only 19th century records are those for the Cadet literary societies.

Scope and Contents One original charcoal sketch (ca. 1908) by Frank A. Fickes, published in the 1911 VMI yearbook. The sketch features a skull, snakes, and ghost, symbols of "TKL" a cadet secret society.

Scope and Contents Notebook (ca. 145 pages) reflecting cadet life 1848-1851. Includes accounts of Corps trips to Richmond, Petersburg, Norfolk and Rockbridge Alum Springs; cadet poetry and essays; poetry by Sara Henderson Smith; addresses delivered before the Cadet Dialectic Society (a literary and debating society); discussion of exams (1851) in English and Natural Philosophy; an account of "An Oyster Supper---A Frolic After Taps", and an account of "our last bible recitation" in which Gibbs describes the last...

Scope and Contents A collection of certificates awarded to graduating members by two 19th century cadet literary and debating organizations known as The Society of Cadets (established 1840) and the Virginia Dialectic Society (established 1848). The certificates of James V. Hall (Class of 1852) and Edward L. Fant (Class of 1856) were autographed by classmates.
