The collection consists of two items. One letter of recommendation (ALS, July 7, 1866) written by General Robert E. Lee on behalf of General Colston. One volume, ca. 100 pages"Report on the Northern and Central Kordofan" (Cairo: printing Office of the General Staff, 1878); attached to this book are photographs of Colston wearing his Egyptian Army uniform, ca. 1878, and of Major H. G. Prout, Col. Egyptian Army; and miscellaneous other reports, 1878-1876.
