Scope and Contents This collection consists of materials from the life of Frank McCarthy, including seven notebooks that contain clippings of articles written by McCarthy during his VMI cadetship and during the two years after graduation. Also included is a script for the newsreel "West Point of the South" (1936) and items from the production of the movie "Patton" (1970), which McCarthy produced.

Scope and Contents Mardi Gras (20th Century Fox, 1958) was the second movie to feature VMI (the first was Brother Rat, see MS-0005). Included in this collection are two scripts (first draft and shooting final), approximately 150 still black and white photos from the production, and other memorablia relating to the movie.

This military school comedy was based on a play by John Monks, Jr. (VMI Class of 1932) who also wrote Brother Rat. The school depicted in the movie is modeled after the Virginia Military Institute.
