Contents Note The collection consists of one ring binder scrapbook containing clippings, correspondence, and programs related to the establishment of the first varsity lacrosse team at VMI, 1948-1950; 9 photographs of the team and team members. The items were donated by team member Francis (Frank) L. Boehm, VMI Class of 1950B. The collection also contains miscellaneous related correspondence [5 items] donated by Walter L. Richards, VMI Class of 1941.

H. Franklin Phillips document, "War Diploma"

Scope and Contents One certificate presented to VMI Cadet H. Franklin Phillips in May 1943. This "three year testimonial" was presented to each member of the Class of 1944, in lieu of a diploma, when the class members were called to active duty in May 1943. It states that Phillips successfully completed three years at VMI and was signed by VMI Superintendent Charles E. Kilbourne and others.

Scope and Contents One typescript, "Reminiscences of a Keydet Cavalryman" by Col. James L. Morrison, Jr., VMI Class of 1945. Morrison gives a detailed account his years as a cadet participating in ROTC cavalry unit, 1941-1943 and 1945-1947. Subjects include the operation of the unit at VMI; cadet riding activities, including polo; and individuals involved in the programs.

Scope and Contents Transcript of interview with VMI alumnus and retired faculty members/administrator Gen. James M. Morgan, Jr., Class of 1945. The interview was conducted in 2006 by James Dittrich, VMI Class of 1976. It covers General Morgan's years during World War II at VMI and in the Army Enlisted Reserve Corps (ERC); recollections about graduate school work; and his early teaching career at VMI. The bulk of the discussion covers the years 1941-1957.

Scope and Contents Interviews with World War II era VMI alumni conducted by cadets taking History 393 - World War II - taught by LTC Bradley L. Coleman. Fall semester, 2015. The interviews cover cadet experiences from the era as well as military service.
