Scope and Contents This collection consists of a one volume diary and notebook kept by VMI cadet Charles T. Haigh between 1862 and 1864. The volume provides insight into the life and concerns of a VMI cadet during the Civil War. Scope and Contents John F. Hanna's diary contains a colorful account of life at VMI and in Lexington, Virginia during the Spring of 1864. Entries begin April 17, 1864 and end May 9, 1864.

The diary was used by Septimus Knight of 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry from August 1862 (apparently copied from an earlier diary or notes) through June 1868. Most entries relate the movements and activities of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry.

Scope and Contents The diary contains very brief entries concerning regimental activities, such as miles marched and the location of camps. The volume begins with a short biographical sketch of Beall's early life. Scope and Contents Moss's first diary entry begins on page 13 and is dated September 13, 1943, the day his unit departed for overseas duty, and the last is D-Day, June 6, 1944. During the bulk of this period his unit was in Italy at Anzio Beachhead and vicinity. Moss describes action at Anzio, German air attacks, unit casualities, and other events relating to the military campaign.
