Scope and Contents The notebook contains approximately 50 poems by William E. Arnold, other cadets, various 19th century poets, and anonymous authors. Cadet poetry includes The Regulations by Charles Denby (VMI Class of 1850) and The Six Plebes on Leaving for Richmond by Thomas O. Benton (VMI Class of 1850). A few poems were composed by Arnold during the Civil War. The notebook also includes miscellany such as clippings, puzzles, and riddles.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of two poetry notebooks compiled by VMI cadet Robert Beverley during the period of 1874 to 1875. The volumes contain original poetry composed by VMI cadets, as well as copied verses. Cadet authors include Smith Caruthers (Class of 1875), Samuel M. Cooper (Class of 1876), Selby Jones (Class of 1864), and Charles D. Walker (Class of 1869). The notebooks also contain poetry by faculty member Robert L. Madison. An index is located in front of volume one.

Scope and Contents The collection contains three manuscript notebooks containing verse letters, poetry, notes, and a few newspaper clippings, bulk 1861-1865. One of the volumes is titled "Order Book, 9th Regiment Va. Volunteers, Craney Island"; on the endsheets of this book are glued original manuscript signatures of VMI faculty and others , apparently clipped from letters. Scope and Contents This collection contains two items dating from Spencer L. Carter's VMI cadetship. Included is a notebook (binding missing) compiled by Carter, concerning VMI football and baseball. It includes lists of teams, game scores, and plays. The collection also contains an annotated copy of "The VMI Scrapbook," a compilation of cadet poetry and prose published in 1891. Carter added notes concerning the VMI Class of 1893, cadet officers, and Kappa Alpha Fraternity members.
